Madlands

One of the most dangerous region of the Weik we know. Spreading southward from the Ordan Spine mountains, this desolated and paradoxal land seems like a desperate place to live in. But various tribes have actually managed to adapt to its unpredictable wilderness. Madland_Vergence_.jpg
Various features make of the Madlands a world of its own. Primarily time and space in the Madlands appear to randomly to be shifting scale. A day may seem to pass in a few minutes when a minute could feel like a day. Distances are to difficult predict and time is never an ally. But one of the most dangerous anomaly of the Madlands are its Night-Storms. A sort of Force-storm, carrying fool winds and hallucinatory clouds, rapped in shadows and sand, may manifest at any moment without warning, but is unusually seen as a gigantic storm wall teleporting away the people trapped in it as it progresses. Entire villages or mountains have been seen disappearing and relocated on the other end of the desert. Some people unable to cope with the chock of the teleportation keep acting as if still at their former location. Those fools errant are called the “Passengers”. Water springs are also sensible to frequent teleportation. storm.jpg
All this coupled with the arid and desert climate of a mostly bare and rocky land make for a hard life. Nevertheless, tribes of tough people have lived across those lands for generations. Most adopted a nomadic life in tune with the magical discordances of the land. When the Night-storm comes they flee, where water is announced they stay. Others have settled underground after discovering a much secured but no less uncertain life in the caves and canyons. canyon.jpg
The belief goes that Madlands are meant to be an ordeal of the Gods to its people so only the worthiest tribe will rise above all others and rule. This is the Legend. One tribe must show its worthiness to the Gods by dominating all the others. Before that no one will ultimately be able to defeat or control the Night-storms, and thus restore balance in the seasons. Some tribes, through might and domination will enslave all who oppose their claim. Other will attempt more diplomatic and clever ways to unites into mightier clans. War leaders and impetuous shamans will bring those clans against each other into coalition wars. Prophets and kings will compete for the Vivtor title. The Legend has only one law: “The Law”; Any man who beats another can claim him for slave, and only by killing his master a slave can set himself free.
